ISTD 2016 Project 1: A Life's Work
Brief: Celebrate the life’s work of Adrian Frutiger. Create a prestigious ‘publication’ that celebrates the life and work of Adrian Frutiger. The publication should be special and pay homage to one of the world's great type designers.
'The 24 Terms from The Man of Black and White' is my response to this brief, which is inspired by the film 'The Man of Black and White 2005', based on the life and work of Adrian Frutiger. A set of 24 terms were picked out from the film and explored throughout the publication, snapshot images from the film flow throughout the book in chronological order. The typeface used throughout is Univers in a range of styles and sizes, one of my favourite fonts by Frutiger.
After watching the film for the first time, I thought it was rather dull and didn’t show the greatness of Frutiger’s work in a way, which it deserved to be. This is what inspired me to take the film and produce something, which celebrated his life in stages, whilst showing snapshots of his craft and talent and highlighting the beauty of his work.
